Summary: 
Goldschmitt and Associates is seeking an Accounting and Loan Operations Manager for a remote position in support of Federal Student Aid (FSA).
 
Job Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Accounting Operations & Compliance

    • Oversee and enhance accounting operations and student loan adjustment activities and to ensure accuracy, compliance, and operational excellence
    • Lead cross-functional teams to optimize workflows, maintain regulatory adherence, and deliver high-quality financial management and reporting
    • Direct accounting functions, including payment reconciliation, loan adjustments, and monthly trial balance reviews
    • Maintain full compliance with FSA, NIST, and applicable federal and state financial regulations
    • Prepare and analyze financial reports to ensure data integrity and accurate financial representation
    • Implement and monitor quality control measures to prevent accounting discrepancies and ensure operational accuracy
    • Leverage automated reconciliation tools and AWS-based systems to improve efficiency and reporting accuracy
  • Leadership & Team Management
    • Manage, lead, and develop accounting and operational account adjustment teams supporting student loan repayment and forgiveness programs
    • Supervise and mentor team members and supervisors, providing training, guidance, and performance feedback to maximize productivity and engagement
    • Collaborate with the Manager of Back Office Operations to refine workflows and enhance the borrower experience across account adjustments, application processing, and quality initiatives
  • Loan Operations & Data Integrity
    • Audit and review loan balance data; execute account adjustments, reconciliations, and payment processing
    • Oversee onboarding and offboarding of student loan transfers while ensuring compliance and accuracy throughout the process
    • Develop and maintain internal controls and compliance training programs aligned with federal and state standards
    • Address borrower concerns, client requests, and compliance inquiries in a timely and professional manner
  • Reporting & Continuous Improvement
    • Produce, monitor, and evaluate performance, production, and compliance reports for multiple program areas
    • Partner with workforce management to ensure staffing levels align with operational goals and performance metrics
    • Conduct proactive audits of processes and documentation to identify improvement opportunities and performance trends
    • Report compliance issues promptly to senior leadership and ensure corrective actions are implemented
  • Participate in continuing education and regulatory updates to maintain current knowledge of evolving compliance requirements

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines

  • Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of GAAP, federal regulations, and compliance frameworks
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, its related regulations and the state laws and regulations
  • Ability to create presentations and provide training to staff regarding performance
  • Ability to audit and review and reconcile loan balances and payments
  • Capable of leading a team and coaching a team
  • Detailed oriented and ability to multi-task
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, specifically excel
  • Ability to read, write and speak fluent English
  • Excellent presentation and facilitations skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively within all levels of the organization 
  • Ability to adjust quickly to changing business needs
 Minimum Qualifications:
  • 5 years of experience in administrative support leadership role directing and managing teams on the student loan servicing contract or 5 years of experience executing operational accounting tasks on the student loan servicing contract
  • Possess a Bachelor's degree

  • Proficiency with financial reporting systems and reconciliation tools

  • Proven experience in accounting management within loan servicing or finance 

  • ​​​Possess the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline, or equivalent combination of experience and education in lieu of degree
  • Possess a professional certifications such as the CIA or CISA 
  • Possess 8 or more years of financial accounting/reporting and reconciliation experience
  • Demonstrated strength in operational financial analysis using manual and computerized methods
  • Knowledge of systems and practices commonly utilized in the occupation of a financial services organization
  • Expert level knowledge in Microsoft Excel and at least intermediate level knowledge in Microsoft Word
